The children’s family was embroiled in a dispute that turned violent on December 26, 2024, when their father, Richard Byibesho, allegedly assaulted their mother, Fausta Nyiramakaramu.

The matter was initially reported to Mutorele police station, but the local council chairperson and residents requested that it be handled at the village level.

However, the situation escalated, and Fausta was later arrested and jailed at Kisoro government prison before the children were chased out of their home, leading them to seek help from the district authorities.

The children, including Francis Iraduha and Lawrence Tuyisenge, alleged that their father pretended to be sick and went to a medical clinic while they tried to stop the fight between their father and mother.

They also claimed that their father, stepmother, and their grandmother were both involved in the fight.

He requested assistance from the office of the RDC to bring peace to the village before someone gets killed.

When contacted on the phone the Kisoro police station officer in charge of the family and child protection unit, Gideon Mfitumukiza, referred the matter to the Nyakabande community development officer.

The Kisoro Assistant RDC, Valence Hagumimana, urged the local council chairperson to provide shelter to the children until they can visit the RDC’s office on Monday.
