KIVU: The Chief of Defense Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has expressed gratitude to the UPDF Soldiers under Operation Shujaa for their patriotic work in fighting ADF terrorists in Democratic Republic Of Congo.

Kainerugaba landed in the North Kivu Province and then proceeded to the neighboring Ituri Province, where he held discussions with commanders and militants about Operation Shujaa.
Accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including the Commander Land Force, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Artillery Division Commander Brig Gen Dan Kakono, and Col Albert Kashakamba, the Uganda’s CDF was welcomed by the Commander of Operation Shujaa, Maj Gen Richard Otto.
He challenged the united troops to completely eliminate the remaining ADF fighters, emphasizing that both President Yoweri Museveni and President Felix Tshisekedi have tasked the forces to finish the mission before the end of this year.
The progress of Operation Shujaa was clear during the visit, as civilians were seen engaging in routine activities, like transporting goods and conducting agricultural activities.
Nonetheless, some abandoned houses covered with shrubs were also visible, serving as a reminder of the devastating impact of ADF terrorists before the commencement of Operation Shujaa.
Launched in November 2021, Operation Shujaa has achieved significant milestones, including the resumption of normal life for civilian populations and a major reduction in attacks on Ugandan territory.
The operation has also severely diminished the capacity of the ADF to organize, with several senior commanders killed. Presently, the ADF exists in small groups, operating in areas outside the jurisdiction of Operation Shujaa.
Gen Kainerugaba’s visit underscores the commitment of the UPDF and FARDC to work together to tackle shared security concerns and promote regional stability and pledged to return soon.
