11th Burwathon Marathon Honors Legacy, Promotes Health in Kabale

KABALE, UGANDA – About 200 people participated in the 11th annual Burwathon Memorial Marathon, a tribute to the late Noah and Mauda Buhaburwa in Kabale District.

Noah and Mauda Buhaburwa are remembered as prominent opinion leaders and beloved business figures in the community.

Leone Byereeta Buhaburwa, their son and one of the chief organisers, stated that the event has been held for the past 11 years in memory of his departed parents, honor their legacy.

He added that the event also raises awareness about the importance of physical activity in combating non-communicable diseases such as diabetes.

Martin Mwebesa, a Bank Director from Canada, served as the Guest of Honour and chief walker. He urged participants to regularly engage in sports to fight and reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the strong turnout and extended warm Christmas wishes to all participants and their families.

The chief sponsor, Norman Batuma, offered his firm assurance of continued sponsorship for the event in the years to come. In the race results, Isaac Muhumuza and Norman Batuma won the 10-kilometer race, while Edwin Kayima won the 5-kilometer race.

Winners were presented with trophies and medals. The marathon also honored lasting dedication, recognizing Boaz Bugigi as the most consistent participant and Jennifer Bitarabeho as the most senior participant, highlighting the event’s inclusive spirit for all ages and abilities.

The 11th Burwathon Memorial Marathon stood as a testament to a family’s love, a community’s solidarity, and a shared commitment to building a healthier, more active Kabale.
