Mbareba Vows to Mainstream Youth in Rukiga’s Development Agenda

RUKIGA, UGANDA – The National Resistance Movement (NRM)-leaning independent aspirant for the Rukiga District LC V Chairperson seat, Hon. Michael Kwarikunda Mbareba, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to mainstream youth participation in the district’s development agenda.

The pledge was made over the weekend at the Kandago Play Ground, following a fiercely contested football match between Kandago FC and Kyerero FC in the ongoing Mbareba Cup tournament.

Addressing a crowd of sports lovers and community members, Mbareba positioned youth empowerment as the cornerstone of his prospective administration.

He highlighted the critical paradox of the district’s youth making up over 70 percent of the population while their voices remain marginalized and key decisions are made without their input.

Mbareba argued that this exclusion leads to policies and development plans that are misaligned with the aspirations and realities of the younger generation, ultimately hindering sustainable progress.

The aspiring Chairperson, citing his long history in youth advocacy, including service in the first Rukiga District Council, said this experience gives him a deep understanding of the barriers young people face.

“My journey in youth leadership, beginning with the first Rukiga District Council, has given me both a firsthand understanding of the systemic barriers our young people face and the network necessary to break them down,” Mbareba stated.

Mbareba pledged to give youth issues a direct voice in his cabinet, promising a dedicated representative to prioritize their concerns, from unemployment to innovation, in the district’s plans and budget.

The Mbareba Cup football tournament exemplifies the aspirant’s method of using sports as a tool for mobilization and community engagement.

By integrating his policy launch with a popular sporting event, Mbareba effectively connected with youth in a space where they are most active and visible, framing development discourse within a context of energy and collective aspiration.

As the campaign for the Rukiga District LC V Chairperson seat intensifies, Mbareba’s focused agenda on youth inclusion sets a clear benchmark.
