KISORO, UGANDA – Over 200 Early Childhood Development (ECD) students from Kisoro Municipal Teachers’ College and Kisoro Municipal Training Institute have begun their end-of-year examinations, which are scheduled to conclude on 19th December 2025.

He explained that the institute trains nursery teachers to ensure they are well-equipped for employment in schools with nursery sections.
Lyamuremye added that students were adequately prepared through thorough revision, continuous tests, and completion of the syllabus.
He noted that 113 ECD students from Kisoro Municipal Training Institute are currently sitting for the examinations.

The institution’s Director, Sam Byibesho, noted that nursery teachers have become very scarce, especially in private nursery schools, attributing the shortage to the ban on government-aided colleges that previously trained them.
Byibesho further explained that the few available nursery teachers are often recruited to teach in Rwandan schools abroad, particularly those from Kisoro District.

Meanwhile, the Director of Kisoro Municipal Teachers’ College, Edward Ntirenganya, said the college has 61 ECD students, including 30 in Year One and 31 in Year Two.
He added that the institution collaborates with Makerere University, which sets examinations and awards certificates to qualifying students, enabling them to teach in nursery schools.
Ntirenganya emphasized that students are taught by competent assistant lecturers with over 20 years of experience, expressing confidence that the candidates are well-prepared to pass. He noted that this has enabled the college to produce high-quality teachers who are competitive in the job market.

Candidates also expressed their readiness for the examinations, pledging to excel and demonstrate high professional standards in the schools that will grant them the opportunity to teach in nursery sections.
