KANUNGU, UGANDA – Hon. Counsel Esther Majambere, the aspiring Woman Member of Parliament for Kanungu, has been officially nominated as an independent candidate, setting the stage for a highly anticipated electoral campaign.

The nomination at the Kanungu district headquarters was followed by a wave of enthusiastic support, signaling a strong start for Majambere’s bid.

The campaign has already launched strategic offices in Kambuga Town Council for Kinkizi East Constituency and Kihiihi Town Council for Kinkizi West, drawing large crowds of active voters.

Addressing a gathering at her home in Bugongo Cell, Nyakatunguru Ward, the candidate outlined her core priorities. Hon. Majambere made a firm pledge to champion the cause of teachers, who have long sought better remuneration and working conditions.

“I will be a steadfast advocate for our teachers, fighting for the good pay and proper welfare they rightfully deserve,” she declared to applause.

She also reaffirmed her commitment to improving healthcare, pointing to her track record of initiatives. These have included organizing health camps, providing “Mama Kits” to expectant mothers, and facilitating eye surgeries for community members—a record she promises to build upon.

In a significant political development, Majambere’s campaign has been bolstered by a wave of defections from rival camps, most notably from the recent NRM internal party elections, which she described as having been “conducted improperly.”

Leading the defectors, Kiconco Rosette explained their decision to switch allegiance. “We realized that the candidate we previously supported was not the right leader for the job. We are now fronting someone with great ideas to genuinely develop our district,” Kiconco stated.

Adding considerable weight to this movement, the former Kanungu District Woman MP in the NRM primary, Kyasiimire Shillah, popularly known as ‘Omushojwa’, has thrown her support behind Hon. Majambere.Kyasiimire cited a lack of free and fair proceedings in the NRM primaries as her reason for defecting.

She endorsed Majambere based on her “strong manifesto, which clearly catalyses the improvement of health and education sectors, and addresses access to electricity and other essential communal needs.”

While rallying her supporters, Hon. Majambere also called for the re-election of the President of Uganda, who is also the NRM Chairperson, in the forthcoming general elections.

The energetic and hopeful legislator has demonstrated an overwhelming show of force on the ground, with political analysts noting that her powerful launch positions her as the candidate to beat in the race for the Kanungu Woman MP seat.
