According to a meteorological report issued on July 31, 2025, the first ten days of August will bring continued rainfall to northern and eastern Uganda, including Acholi, Lango, Karamoja, Teso, and Elgon sub-regions.

Some areas may experience heavy to extremely heavy downpours that could lead to flash floods and waterlogging, particularly in Acholi and Karamoja.

Western regions, including West Nile near the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Rwenzori sub-region covering Toro and Bunyoro, will also receive significant rainfall. Meanwhile, extreme southern Uganda is predicted to remain dry with only minimal precipitation.

Temperature forecasts show:

  • Cooler conditions in Rift Valley areas of West Nile (18°C to 24°C).
  • Coldest weather in southern highlands including Rwenzori and Elgon (8°C to 16°C).
  • Moderate temperatures elsewhere (20°C to 28°C)

The DMS urges residents in flood-prone areas, particularly Acholi and Karamoja, to remain vigilant due to flash flood risks.

Authorities emphasize caution in low-lying regions where sudden heavy rains could cause dangerous flooding.

Key advisories include:

  1. Farmers in northern Uganda should utilize wet conditions for crops, while southern farmers may need irrigation.
  2. Karamoja communities should store rainwater for drier periods
  3. Public warned about increased malaria risk from stagnant water
  4. Motorists advised to drive carefully in foggy or hazy conditions
  5. Farmers reminded to practice proper post-harvest handling and monitor for pests.

The department emphasizes the importance of proactive measures and community vigilance to manage weather-related challenges.
