Vice President Maj. Rtd. Jessica Alupo flagged off the Army Week at an event hosted by the Defense Ministry Headquarters in Mbuya. The main event will take place at Kasasa township in Kakuto Constituency, Kyotera District, on February 6, 2025.

In Kabale, district authorities, led by Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) Christopher Aine and Kabale Municipality Deputy Mayor Kedress Mutabazi, collaborated with security agencies to plant trees and clean the town streets. Residents of Kabale town participated in the cleaning and tree-planting activities, which were part of the Army Week activities.

According to Lt. Sadik Nsekanabo, UPDF Political Commissar for the Kigezi sub-region, the Tarehe Sita celebrations serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by NRA fighters whose efforts brought peace and stability in the country, beginning 1986. He also highlighted that the cleaning and tree-planting activities aimed to promote environmental conservation.

Nsekanabo revealed that the Kigezi regional Tarehe Sita celebrations would be held in Kisoro District on February 10, 2025.

Kabale Municipality Deputy Mayor Kedress Mutabazi commended the security forces for their efforts and thanked President Yoweri Museveni for fostering a closer relationship between the Army and the civilian community.

“In the past, we would run away into hiding whenever we saw men in uniform,” Mutabazi said.
