Lisbon, Portugal – The founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network, Prince Karim Aga Khan, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 88 in Lisbon.

Friends and family members described the late Prince Karim Aga Khan as a person who dedicated his life to improving the quality of life for individuals and communities worldwide, regardless of their religious affiliations or origins.
They reaffirmed that the Institute of Ismaili Studies, established by Prince Karim Aga Khan in 1977, will continue its mission to promote scholarship and learning about Islam and address pressing ethical and intellectual questions faced by Muslim communities globally.
The announcement of Prince Karim Aga Khan’s designated successor is expected to follow, as leaders and staff of the Aga Khan Development Network, along with the Ismaili community worldwide, offer condolences to his family and reflect on his remarkable legacy.
