KAMPALA – Police have confirmed the arrest of key suspects allegedly involved in the brazen robbery of over UGX 45 million from officials of a city forex bureau in Kampala last week.

The two arrested individuals have been identified as Kamoga Yudah, alias “Sparta,” and boda boda rider Kayabula Arnold, both thought to be in connection with the robbery.

The incident occurred on the evening of May 6, 2026, when a Riverside Forex Bureau manager and a colleague left Bunga Trading Centre with USD 13,000 for exchange.

After converting the money into Uganda shillings along Kampala Road, the victims were ambushed at Nsambya by armed men on motorcycles who fled with the cash.

Detectives recovered a motorcycle with registration number UMA 655GK and discovered its number plate had been expertly forged to conceal the machine’s true identity.

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed to the press that officers were able to track and arrest the suspects on June 12, 2026, while also recovering a second motorcycle (UMA 602KK) believed to be linked to the heist.

He added that the suspects remain in custody as authorities continue to establish their full roles and pursue other accomplices still at large, with a firm commitment to bringing everyone involved to justice.

“The two suspected criminals are in our custody as the team works to find out their exact roles and track down any other accomplices who have not yet been caught. We are committed to ensuring that every individual involved in this theft is arrested and brought to justice,” said ASP Owoyesigyire.

The swift police action has drawn praise from the business community, as Kampala Metropolitan Police reaffirms its dedication to dismantling criminal networks and urges the public to remain vigilant against mobile cash thefts.
