KABALE – The newly elected LC5 Chairperson for Kabale District, Mr. Denis Nzeirwe Ndyomugyenyi, has taken oath to begin his official duties, pledging a zero-tolerance stance on corruption within the district.

The ceremony was held at the district headquarters and was presided over by His Worship Derrick Byamugisha, the Kabale Chief Magistrate
Accompanied by his wife, Ms. Monica Muhumuza, Mr. Nzeirwe took the Oath of Office and oath of Secrecy, pledging to serve the district with faithfulness, honesty, dedication in accordance to the Local Governments Act, Cap 243 and the Oaths Act, Cap 19.

In his inaugural speech, Nzeirwe committed to leading a corruption-free district. He emphasized that transparency and accountability would be the cornerstones of his administration, highlighting how corruption undermines service delivery and development efforts in any local government.

He also unveiled plans to enhance educational standards, including the procurement of a printing machine for producing termly exams. Nzeirwe assured that every school in Kabale would benefit from free exams, vowing to elevate the district’s educational standards to achieve national excellence.
Speaking at the same event, Rubanda District LC5 Chairman Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba urged Nzeirwe to serve with passion and dedication, cautioning him to avoid distractions from political ambitions such as aspirations to become a Member of Parliament.
“There’s a challenge in this country today, where many contest for LC5 Chairperson Positions as a stepping stone to higher political offices. But I can assure you that there’s no better job than what the people of Kabale have entrusted you with, and that is being their LC5 Chairperson. Please focus and dedicate your time to serving them,” said Kasyaba who is also set to swear in for his second term as Rubanda District LC5 Chairman on May 22, 2026.

Ndorwa East MP Dr. Protazio Begumisa commended Nzeirwe for his stance against corruption and pledged cooperation in this vital fight. Ndorwa West MP Eliab Naturinda also reminded leaders to work together for the district’s growth, emphasizing that each generation’s leadership should aim to leave a lasting legacy.

Kabale Municipality Member of Parliament Andrew Aja Baryayanga and District Woman MP Enid Atuheire Origumisiriza, called on Nzeirwe to initiate healing among Kabale residents, some of whom are still emotionally affected by the 2025/2026 election rivalries.
The swearing-in ceremony was followed by the election of the District Speaker of Council, in which incumbent and Kaharo Sub-county Female LC5 Councilor Flavia Nyinakiiza Kanagizi defeated Kahungye Sub-county Councilor Baker Turyamureeba with 21 to 14 votes. Northern Division Councilor Tom Kazemera was also elected Deputy Speaker.

Ms. Kemanzi Prima was announced as the new Vice Chairperson of Kabale District, following her appointment by the newly sworn-in LC5 Chairperson and approval by the District Council. Ms. Prima, representing the Southern Division on the district council, is the wife of Kitagwenda Resident District Commissioner Mr. Isaiah Kanyamahane.
Outgoing Vice Chairperson Ms. Miria Akankwasa Tugume, the Kahungye Sub-county LC5 Councilor, was re-appointed to the district Executive Committee as Secretary for Finance and Administration. Ms. Akankwasa deputized Nelson Nshangabasheija, who served as Kabale District LC5 Chairman from 2021 to 2026.
