KAMPALA – The former Deputy Managing Director of the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, has taken the Oath of Office, officially assuming her role as the Woman Member of Parliament for Rukiga District in Uganda’s 12th Parliament.

The ceremony, held with crisp formality at Parliament House in Kampala, saw the former Deputy MD at NWSC pledge allegiance to the Constitution, trading a career in water utility management for a mandate to shape legislation.
Dr. Alinaitwe’s ascension marks the end of Hon. Coraline Kamusiime Muhwezi’s tenure, who represented Rukiga for over seven years since the district gained independence from Greater Kabale in 2017.
Speaking to the press moments after her swearing-in, a composed and resolute Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe struck a chord of unity, pledging to cooperate and work closely with the people of Rukiga District and the entire country.
She further outlined three central pillars for her term in the 12th Parliament: unity, service delivery, and an unwavering commitment to representing the people’s interests.
“This is not just a title or an office; it is a sacred trust from the people of Rukiga. I come to the 12th Parliament not to be served, but to serve; not merely to speak, but to listen; and not to advance personal ambition, but to deliver tangible change. I will prioritize unity, uplift service delivery, and ensure every voice from the hills of Rukiga echoes in this House,” MP Sylvia noted.
Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe’s journey to the green chamber came as a result of her political breakthrough during the NRM party primaries, where she scored a commanding victory over the incumbent, Hon. Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi.
Carrying the party flag, Dr. Sylvia sailed to victory in the general election, being declared the duly elected Woman Member of Parliament for Rukiga District for the 2026–2031 term.
The legislator is among over 500 newly elected Members of Parliament scheduled to take their Oaths of Allegiance and the Oath of Member of Parliament over three days, from May 13 to 15, 2026.
