KAMPALA – The High Court, sitting at Ggaba Community Church in Kampala, will today, April 30, 2026, deliver its final judgment in the case of Christopher Okello Onyum, the man accused of killing four toddlers at a nursery school.

Okello Onyum, 38, is accused of killing four toddlers, including Ryan Odeke, Keisha Agenorwoth Otim, Gideon Eteku, and Ignatius Sseruyange, aged between 1 and 2.5 years old, at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre on April 2, 2026.

Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha is set to read the final ruling, exactly 27 days after an incident that plunged a peaceful community into mourning and reignited a national conversation on mental health and child safety.

Heavy security has been deployed at Ggaba Community Church grounds, where armed officers have cordoned off the area as victims’ families, legal observers, and journalists gather under a tense, overcast sky.

Meanwhile, for the grieving parents and relatives of the four toddlers who lost their lives, today marks the end of a swift but deeply painful legal journey.

The brutal nature of the attack has sent shockwaves across the country, leading to an outpouring of grief and vigils held in Kampala and beyond.

During his defense, Okello did not deny being at the scene but told a story of mental collapse, saying he was under extreme pressure from January to March 2026.

He claimed that people he once trusted threatened his life and demanded money, and that the fear drove him to sleep on the streets, attempt to rob a bank, and even plan to harm his own brother’s family.

Okello insisted he never meant to kill the four toddlers, saying he was not in his right mind, that police forced him to sign a confession. His defense team rested its case after failing to bring its last two witnesses.

The prosecution has argued for the full measure of the law, pointing to the premeditated nature of the attack and the vulnerability of the victims.

Regardless of the outcome, the final ruling will mark a definitive chapter in a tragedy that has already left four families shattered and a nation searching for answers.
