KISORO, UGANDA – A newlywed man in Kisoro District was apprehended by police for allegedly tossing his wife’s clothes, including her Mothers’ Union uniform, into a pit latrine after a domestic quarrel.

The husband is Alex Nshimiyamana Mbonyubwabo, 40, a vendor of the local brew Bushera, who had recently celebrated a Christian wedding with his wife, Justin Bazana, at the Church of Uganda’s Kagezi Parish.

The incident, which occurred on the morning of Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, suggests that the harmony expected of a newly married couple was short-lived.

Sources close to the couple reveal that Ms. Bazana had confronted her husband with serious allegations, accusing him of infidelity and of selling off family gardens without her knowledge or consent.

Sources indicate that tensions between the couple had been simmering for some time, raising fears within the entire community.

The accusations fueled a heated disagreement, a confrontation that escalated, leading the husband, Alex, to throw several of his wife’s clothes into a toilet.

The situation was further inflamed by reports that among the garments destroyed was Ms. Bazana’s Mothers’ Union uniform, a symbol of her membership in the prestigious Anglican women’s group dedicated to Christian family values.

The act shocked neighbours and quickly became a topic of conversation in the village marketplace at Sereri Trading Centre, where Alex operates a small business selling the local drink, Bushera.

The wife, Bazana, later reported the matter to Murora Police Aid Post, prompting officers to arrest Alex on Wednesday evening. He was later released on police bond the following evening.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that the arrest is connected to a domestic violence case, with investigations ongoing.

The incident has sparked widespread discussion in the district about conflict resolution and mutual respect within marriages, particularly given the couple’s recent church wedding.
