Hon. Angello Twinomuhangi Bagorogoza is accused of swindling the money from Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungyi and her husband, Eng. Godfrey Rwihunga Turyahikayo.

The funds, totaling 440 million Shillings, were intended for the purchase of land for the MP’s family at Rwakaraba, specifically plot 35, block 18. The transactions took place at the Centenary Bank branch in Kabale.

During proceedings at the Kabale Grade I Magistrates Court today, Monday, February 23, 2026, Magistrate Aziza Nyevu convicted Twinomuhangi on two charges: theft and obtaining money by false pretense.

The court heard that Twinomuhangi, who was formerly employed as a political aide to Mary Paula, dishonestly took the money belonging to her family between October 2020 and February 2021.

State Prosecutor Julie Nanjuju presented evidence to the magistrate, proving that Twinomuhangi’s actions clearly amounted to theft.

However, the convict was absent for his sentencing after his lawyer, Solomon Atiba, informed the court that his client was unwell and had a pending appeal at the High Court.

Despite the accused’s absence, Magistrate Nyevu proceeded to read the judgment, finding that the prosecution had proven Twinomuhangi’s guilt on both charges beyond a reasonable doubt.

“The last time we were here, we agreed that no matter what happens, whether your client is present or not, I will go on and read the judgement,” Nyevu said.

Magistrate Nyevu issued a warrant for Twinomuhangi’s arrest and set March 10, 2026, for his sentencing in a closely watched case involving a former political aide and a Member of Parliament.

Meanwhile, MP Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungyi, while speaking to the media, expressed relief that justice had finally been served after a long and difficult journey.

She appreciated the Senior State Attorney, Julie Nanjuju, for her dedication in a case that has drawn regional attention, as it involves a former political aide and a recently elected Member of Parliament.
