MUKONO – The Government of Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling the bottlenecks stifling the country’s industrial sector, with a specific focus on boosting agro-industrialisation and value addition.

The state-of-the-art Avado Industries facility in Mukono, a monumental US$3.5 million investment, crushes 300 metric tonnes of avocados daily and ships 100% of its premium cold-pressed oil to discerning European buyers.
Providing stable, dignified employment to over 335 Ugandans, this flourishing agro-industrial venture stands as powerful proof that when agricultural wealth meets industrial vision, local communities thrive and national prosperity follows.
Minister Bahati was visibly impressed by the operations, describing the factory as a stellar example of how Uganda can harness its agricultural bounty to drive economic transformation.
“This investment demonstrates Uganda’s immense potential to use agro-industrialisation as a vehicle for job creation, increasing farmers’ incomes, and generating vital foreign exchange,” Minister Bahati stated.
The Minister candidly recognised the persistent bottlenecks stifling industrial advancement and swiftly unveiled a comprehensive, multi-sectoral action plan designed to tackle each obstacle with precision.
Smallholder farmers will receive intensified government backing to significantly expand high-quality avocado cultivation, thereby guaranteeing a steady, uninterrupted, and reliable raw material flow for agro-processing industries.
Rigorous enforcement of quality standards will decisively curb the damaging practice of harvesting and exporting immature fruits, thereby safeguarding Uganda’s esteemed reputation across competitive international markets.
“We are done with the era of exporting our God-given resources only to watch others reap the rewards of our labour. This Government is removing every barrier, whether in power, regulation, or farmer support, so that Ugandans process what we grow, create jobs where we harvest, and earn dignity where we plant. Industrialisation is not a choice; it is our responsibility to the next generation,” Minister Bahati noted.
Reassuring the business community of the Government’s steadfast support, Minister Bahati emphasized that the State remains fully committed to fostering an enabling environment for industrial investments.
