The concerted push follows a decisive Rukiga District Roads Committee meeting held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the district headquarters, chaired by the Rukiga Woman Member of Parliament and committee chairperson, Dr. Sylvia Alineitwe.
The committee, which includes the Rukiga County MP, Hon. Kiconco Katabaazi Patrick; the LC V Chairperson, Simon Mutebi Rwamagyenda; and other key stakeholders, overwhelmingly agreed that the road must be worked on immediately.
The recommendation was prompted by a prior inspection by district leaders who assessed the road’s poor condition and explored possible ways to upgrade it to improve accessibility, transport, and connectivity.
Speaking to the press shortly after the inspection, Hon. Dr. Sylvia Alineitwe highlighted the transformative potential of the Rwanyangobe Road project, describing it as a game-changer for the region’s connectivity and economic fortunes.
She noted that once improved, the route would significantly boost trade in timber and charcoal, ease transportation, reduce hardship for residents, and improve access to essential services like healthcare and schools along the corridor.
“This road is not just about tarmac and gravel; it is about connecting our people to opportunity. Once complete, it will breathe new life into our local economy, making it easier for farmers to access markets, children to reach schools, and families to get timely medical care,” said Dr. Alineitwe.
MP Kiconco Katabaazi Patrick said that together with fellow leaders, they have renewed their strong promise to serve the people, focusing on better roads, healthcare, schools, and economic growth for Rukiga.
He added that their vision goes beyond Rukiga, as they work hard to turn old promises into real change that improves daily life in every important area.
“We are not just making promises, we are building a future where every child goes to school, every patient reaches a hospital, and every farmer connects to the market. Our commitment to Rukiga is unwavering, and we will not rest until our people see and feel the change they deserve,” stated MP Patrick.
Leaders are lobbying for the Rwanyangobe Road to link Rukiga and Rubanda through Hamurwa, amid concerns over abandoned projects and impassable roads that have delayed healthcare and cost lives.
The District Roads Committee has now passed a resolution, taking a proactive step with renewed commitment to address the district’s wider road infrastructure challenges.
