KAPCHORWA – Police have confirmed the deaths of 21 people, including 20 young pupils, following a devastating road crash involving learners on a school tour in Kapchorwa District.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The unthinkable tragedy occurred on Thursday evening at Chekwatit Village, Kimawa Parish, in Kawowo Sub-county, involving an Isuzu bus (UA 108BQ) belonging to King David Junior School in Ndejje, Makindye Division, Kampala.
Sources indicate that the school bus had transported the children on an educational tour to the scenic Sipi Falls, a popular tourist destination in Kapchorwa District, Eastern Uganda.
Returning from the excursion, the bus reportedly swerved dangerously off the roadway, struck a massive stone along the edge, and overturned in a catastrophic crash that scattered debris across the scene.
Michael Kananura, the spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, confirmed that the accident tragically killed one adult male and 20 schoolchildren on the spot.
“We confirm with deep sorrow the death of 21 people, 20 pupils and one adult male, in the crash. The accident involved an Isuzu bus (UA 108BQ) belonging to King David Junior School in Ndejje, Kampala. The driver has not yet been identified,” Kananura stated.
Three adult males and several juveniles sustained serious injuries and were rushed by emergency teams and local residents to medical facilities in the area for urgent treatment.
The identities of the injured have yet to be confirmed, while the remains of the deceased have been transferred to Kapchorwa Mortuary, pending identification and postmortem examinations.
Kananura has since confirmed that a full-scale investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the crash, promising to provide further updates as more information comes to light.
