KAMPALA – The former Kamuli District Engineer, Daniel Mufumba, has been sent on remand over the alleged embezzlement of over UGX 600 million from the road rehabilitation and maintenance fund.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The former district official, who had been on the run, was on Thursday arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, working jointly with the Criminal Investigations Directorate and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
He joins his co-accused, Mukiibi Nasser, the former Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), and Kifuuse Alex, the former Chief Finance Officer (CFO), who were earlier charged in the same case.
Sources allege that, between May and June 2025, the three senior officials, while employed by Kamuli District Local Government, abused their positions of authority to carry out acts prejudicial to the interests of their employer.
The accused allegedly executed a coordinated scheme to irregularly process and approve payments totaling over UGX 600 million to various suppliers, including Raven Knights Ltd and Total Uganda Limited.
The fraudulent payments covered a wide range of items ostensibly for the rehabilitation of the Nawanyago-Kisozi Road, including: fuel supplies, construction materials, diversion and traffic control signs, and allowances and other operational expenses.
Mufumba brazenly allegedly paid himself part of the embezzled UGX 600 million as a purported supplier, a shocking abuse of office that has exposed serious gaps in local government oversight.
The accused face multiple charges, including Abuse of Office and Causing Financial Loss, with the prosecution arguing that they knowingly abused their authority, caused substantial government losses, and betrayed public trust.
Presiding over the court session, the magistrate ordered Mufumba remanded until July 10, 2026, when the case will resume. His co-accused remain in custody as investigations continue.
