RUKUNGIRI – The woman in Rukungiri District has slaughtered her estranged husband in a brutal daylight attack, reportedly after he left her for another woman.

The tragic incident, which has sent shockwaves through the community, occurred on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM at the deceased’s home in Rwenanura Cell.
Reliable sources indicate that the couple had separated after the deceased married another woman, while Patience had been residing with her biological parents in Nyamayenje Cell, Ndere Parish, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality.
Tensions allegedly arose over the welfare of their child, prompting Patience to approach the area Local Council Chairman, Tugume Eriab, on June 2, 2026, to demand basic necessities for the child.
The deceased was summoned, and both parties agreed that Patience would find a house to rent, with the deceased covering the costs. After this, he provided her with a blanket and a mattress, which she took home.
The following day, Patience returned to the deceased, who gave her 70,000 Uganda Shillings for rent. She departed only to return shortly afterward, while concealing a knife.
She entered the house where the deceased was having lunch with his current wife. When the wife briefly left to put away plates, she heard her husband scream and rushed back to find Bruce with his neck cut by Patience.
The new wife raised an alarm, drawing neighbors together with the area chairman, who gave chase and successfully apprehended the suspect.
The Kigezi regional police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident, stating that the matter was immediately reported to Buyanja Police Station and a team from CPS Rukungiri visited and documented the crime scene.
Statements were recorded from key witnesses, including the deceased’s new wife and neighbors, before the victim’s body was retrieved and conveyed to Buyanja Health Center for a postmortem examination.
Maate added that the suspect was rescued from an angry mob that had already injured her on the head. She was rushed to Rukungiri Health Center IV for treatment and remains under tight police guard.
