BUSHENYI – Police in Bushenyi District have launched a manhunt for an unidentified assailant following a weekend brutal machete attack that left one woman dead and two others injured.

The incident occurred on the evening of Sunday, May 31, 2026, at approximately 8:00 pm in Kanyamitera Cell, Bitooma Town Council, Bushenyi District.
Reliable sources indicate that an unidentified male suspect armed with a panga stormed a home where three victims were preparing food, attacking them without provocation in a sudden act of violence.
The attack claimed the life of one victim at the scene, while two others, whose names are withheld pending family notification, sustained serious wounds and are currently receiving treatment at Comboni Hospital.
The Greater Bushenyi Regional Police spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, confirmed to this reporter that officers promptly responded and managed the scene according to standard procedure.
The deceased’s body has been taken to Comboni Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination, while investigations continue to identify and apprehend the suspect, who is in hiding.
“We are working tirelessly to establish the motive behind this heinous act and bring the perpetrator to justice. We strongly condemn such acts of criminality and lawlessness, and we pledge to deal with them without any leniency,” said SP Tayebwa.
Police further appealed to the public for any information on the incident and urged witnesses to report to the nearest station while pledging to keep the public updated on new developments.
