KISORO, UGANDA – The Kisoro district-based football club SC Volcanoes has strongly dismissed allegations of supernatural influence following their commanding 6-0 victory over Gorilla Highlands Sports Club in a derby fixture played on Sunday.

Captain Alex Mandela, Sali, and a four-goal heroics from Rukyamuzi Julius powered the commanding performance that left no doubt about the home side’s dominance.
The result leaves SC Volcanoes sitting proudly at the summit with 24 points and a formidable +24 goal difference, eight points clear of their closest challengers, while Gorilla Highlands drops to seventh place following the heavy defeat.
The highly anticipated derby attracted a strong turnout from supporters of both Kisoro-based sides, with Volcanoes delivering a disciplined and tactically organized performance that highlighted the gulf between the two teams on the day.
The home side controlled possession throughout, created multiple scoring opportunities, and converted clinically to secure all three points in what proved to be a one-sided affair.
Following the heavy defeat, allegations from the Gorilla Highlands camp suggesting supernatural influence quickly spread across social media, igniting passionate debate among fans in Kisoro and beyond.
Some supporters interpreted the accusations as frustration and denial boiling over after a derby humiliation, while others viewed them as an attempt to deflect from tactical and performance shortcomings on the pitch.
The tension thickened when a Gorilla Highlands club official, identified as Mr. Lee, and an undisclosed team captain declined to address the media following the match.
The Head of Media and Publications for SC Volcanoes, Mr. Alex Ahishakiye, issued an official statement on 16th February 2026 dismissing the claims as unprofessional, unfounded, and lacking in sportsmanship.
The club congratulated their players and technical team for a disciplined, tactical, and highly professional performance, emphasizing that the result was earned through preparation, teamwork, and commitment on the pitch.
Ahishakiye added that the team’s success is rooted in preparation, discipline, teamwork, professionalism, and consistency, affirming that the team’s performances are a reflection of collective effort, nothing more, nothing less.
“We congratulate our players and technical team for a disciplined, tactical, and highly professional performance earned through preparation, teamwork, and commitment. For context, SC Volcanoes is on an eight-match unbeaten run in the FUFA Western League, having conceded just one goal, and proudly sits top of the table. Our performances reflect consistency, preparation, and collective effort, nothing more, nothing less,” Ahishakiye disclosed.
The latest 6–0 victory follows a previous encounter between the two sides on 14 December 2025 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup, where SC Volcanoes secured a narrow 1–0 win over their local rivals.
For Gorilla Highlands, attention now turns to regrouping ahead of their upcoming fixtures as they look to recover from a derby defeat that will undoubtedly sting for some time to come.
