BUSHENYI, UGANDA – Police in Bushenyi district have launched swift investigations into the malicious arson of vehicles following a dispute at the Mbarara-Ishaka taxi stage on Friday.

The target of the attack was a Toyota Sprinter (registration UAB 782B), owned by Mr. Ntwirenabo Silver, the Chairman of the Mbarara-Ishaka taxi stage. The vehicle was deliberately set ablaze by angry individuals.

Initial findings indicate that the act of arson followed a clash between a group of taxi operators and Chairman Ntwirenabo Silver over management issues within the taxi stage operations.

According to the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, SP Tayebwa Apollo, the dispute escalated violently, leading to the targeted attack on the chairman’s property.

He confirmed that officers, dispatched swiftly to the scene, extinguished the fire and prevented the vehicle’s total destruction, although it was already heavily damaged by flames.

“Our officers acted with promptness and professionalism. Through their swift action, the vehicle was saved and, most importantly, no one was hurt. We also prevented the fire from spreading to other properties,” stated SP Tayebwa.

SP Tayebwa stated that the area was later cordoned off for forensic analysis as police continued their investigation into the precise circumstances and the identities of those responsible.

He said that any arrests will be guided by the evidence gathered, with thorough, ongoing investigations involving witness interviews and the collection of all necessary information to ensure the perpetrators face the full force of the law.

The Police further issued a strong appeal to the public, especially within the transport sector, to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving conflicts.

“We urge everyone to resolve misunderstandings through dialogue and with the proper authorities, not by taking the law into their own hands. That path only escalates danger to lives and property,” emphasized SP Tayebwa.
