RUKIGA, UGANDA – Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Nathan Nandala Mafabi has identified rampant corruption as the root cause of Uganda’s most pressing issues, asserting it has crippled public services and entrenched poverty.

Mafabi argued that essential services intended for ordinary Ugandans remain inadequate at the community level due to systematic sabotage by “selfish and greedy” individuals in power.
“The biggest problems of Uganda stem from the rampant corruption in the country. Services meant for the local people have remained poor at the community level as they are always sabotaged by the selfish and greedy people,” Mafabi stated.
Mafabi pledged a radical anti-corruption crackdown, vowing to fight it from the roots while asserting the current government has totally failed.
He also promised to release all political prisoners if elected, specifically named former FDC Party Chairperson Dr. Kizza Besigye, who was arrested on November 16, 2024, in Nairobi, Kenya.
Mafabi anchored his pledge to respect detainee rights and due process in the constitutional guarantee that anyone arrested must be formally charged if a case exists.
“Under Uganda’s Constitution, every arrested person deserves to have their rights respected and must be formally charged if there is a case against them,” Mafabi stated.
Mafabi’s rally in Rukiga is part of a broader effort to consolidate support in Western Uganda, a region with significant political influence.
