The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 AM on December 6, 2025, at the RPC’s residence in Mbaguta Cell, Ruharo Ward, as he was driving home from work.

Sources indicate SSP Bangambaki was ambushed at his gate by assailants armed with machetes (pangas) who had been lying in wait.

It is alleged they were traveling on an unidentified motorcycle stationed on the access road. The assailants damaged the vehicle while attempting to attack its occupants with a panga.

The RPC’s defensive retaliation incapacitated one assailant. The officer’s decisive response caused the waiting accomplices to flee. However, fragments from the shattered windows injured a bystander, Areeba Munda, on the face.

The deceased assailant, whose identity has not yet been established, was transported to the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital mortuary.

The Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson SP Samson Kasasira assured the public of an active, full-scale investigation and crackdown to apprehend the fleeing motorcycle occupants and all others involved in the crime.

“We have launched a full-scale investigation and crackdown to identify and apprehend the fleeing occupants of the motorcycle and all other persons involved in this criminal act,” Kasasira emphasized.

Meanwhile, police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident or the identities of the suspects to come forward and assist in the investigation.
