RUKIGA, UGANDA – Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe has championed a unified local religious community for good, helping to make the Bishop’s Annual Appeal Fund at St. Mark Kamwezi Parish a landmark interfaith event.

The function, held on Saturday, aimed to fundraise for the establishment of a commercial building at Rwamatunguru Trading Centre, which will generate sustainable income for the parish.

In a powerfully symbolic turn, the event featured the presence of Hajji Mwebesa Abdul, the CEO of Qura Quality LTD and a renowned Bushenyi Muslim businessman.

He presided as the Guest of Honor and supported the church project with a contribution of 20 million Ugandan Shillings.

Addressing the gathering of congregants, dignitaries, and politicians, Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe, a prominent political figure in Rukiga, applauded this evolving focus of religious communities.

She described the shift as a pivotal step forward, where faiths move beyond differences to unite people for community upliftment, transcending denominational boundaries.

“We are witnessing a pivotal step forward. Our religions are moving beyond differences, uniting our people to work hand-in-hand for the upliftment of our communities. Today is not about Catholic or Muslim; it is about the development of Rukiga,” Dr. Alinaitwe stated.

Dr. Sylvia commended the leadership of St. Mark Kamwezi Parish for pioneering income-generating initiatives that promise to create job opportunities and foster economic growth within the community.

Representing the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, Rev. Fr. Placid Mugumya, the Bishop’s Secretary, thanked parishioners for their steadfast support.

Aided by Rev. Fr. Mark Aheisibwe, Fr. Placid extended appreciation to Dr. Alinaitwe, thanking her not merely as a politician, but as a true champion fostering tangible development in the area.

The fundraiser was a resounding success, collecting 41,916,000 UGX for the commercial building project. The broad political attendance underscored its community-wide importance.

Attendees included Hon. Prosy Akampurira (Woman MP, Rubanda District) and Hon. Rowland Bish Ndyomugyenyi (MP, Rukiga County), alongside aspiring politicians such as Hon. Patrick Kiconco Katabazi, NUP’s Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba, Hon. Micheal Kwarikunda Mbareba, and Hon. Simon Byabakama.

Dr. Alinaitwe’s consistent advocacy for practical, issue-based leadership is resonating, fostering an environment where development initiatives become common ground for all, regardless of religious or political affiliation.
