Expressing deep concern over residents’ hesitation to develop land believed to be government-owned, Hon. Niwagaba urged them to acquire official titles to safeguard ownership and prevent future disputes.
“I advise you to acquire proper documentation so that such land can legally be owned as parish property, or else it will be taken by someone else,” Hon. Niwagaba cautioned.
The legislator emphasized that securing land tenure is the foundation for development and investment, while also passionately encouraging locals to embrace Arabica coffee and avocado cultivation.
He championed the crops as a strategic, profitable alternative to tree planting, citing their environmental benefits and quicker income potential from the booming avocado market.
Niwagaba outlined the government’s sequential budgeting for oil seeds and coffee, assuring that avocado seedlings are next in line for funding given the high market demand.
The MP further issued a stern reminder that updating National Identity Cards with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) is a free service.
“No one should pay money to update their national ID. Payment is only required for a replacement in case the card is lost,” he clarified.
Hon. Niwagaba advocated for a balanced approach to wetland evictions, urging fair support and alternative land for displaced citizens to resume farming while respecting environmental law.
