The local community group’s recognition was witnessed at its official launch on Thursday at a ceremony held at the Checkpoint Trading Centre in Kisoro District.

The Kamugoyi Health and Development Group was praised for its creativity, unity, and unwavering focus on improving community wellbeing, setting a new standard for grassroots development in the region.

During the event, Chairperson Tumwesigye Efuriam explained the group was formed in 2022 with 32 members and has a dual mission to promote public health and drive economic empowerment.

“Our core aim is to promote good sanitation, including open defecation-free homes, while also uplifting members through income-generating activities,” Tumwesigye stated.

Providing further details, the group’s secretary, Tumusiime Dinah, confirmed that the group officially began its work on December 16, 2022, after receiving crucial empowerment support from AWS (Africa Water Solutions).

She revealed the group’s significant agricultural asset: 50 bags of Irish potato seeds valued at an impressive 15 million shillings, which is expected to substantially boost their productivity.

“The group’s efforts are already bearing fruit. We have been able to purchase goats using the proceeds from our agricultural produce. This shows our members are fully committed to achieving both our health and our development goals,” Tumusiime said.
