Reports indicate that the incident occurred on November 12, 2025, at Kwanyakwezi Trading Centre in Kisoro District’s Nyarusiza Sub-county.

Reliable sources indicate that aspirant Hon. Sam Bitangaro was heading to a rally venue via Gasiza Trading Centre with his team when they were attacked by supporters of another aspirant, Hon. Alex Niyonsaba.

The angry supporters of Hon. Niyonsaba, armed with pangas, bottles, and sticks, beat and cut some of Hon. Sam Bitangaro’s supporters, resulting in injuries to Tumwesigye Nelson, Habyarimana Silvan, and Sibomana Ronald.

The victims were rushed to a nearby clinic for first aid after the attackers attempted to block Bitangaro’s convoy. Police intervened to disperse the crowd and restore order.

Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that police have been dispatched to apprehend the perpetrators.

He also stated that while some victims are receiving medical treatment, others are already giving statements at the Kisoro Central Police Station (CPS).

“Our officers have been dispatched to bring order and arrest the perpetrators. Some victims have been rushed to unknown medical facilities, while others are already at Kisoro CPS recording statements,” Maate stated.

Earlier, at a separate rally at Rugina Grounds, candidate Sam Bitangaro reaffirmed his commitment to promoting development and transformation in his constituency.

Local leaders echoed this sentiment, with Nyakinama Sub-county LC V Woman Councillor Nakato Diana describing Bitangaro as a hero dedicated to the development of all residents.

Nyarusiza Sub-county Speaker Munderi Gad also urged residents to elect leaders focused on tangible transformation and delivering real change, rather than just symbolic representation.
