RUKUNGIRI, UGANDA – Police in Rukungiri have launched a manhunt for a group of suspects accused of the mob killing of a man who was allegedly caught stealing a goat and whose body was subsequently set ablaze.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Allan Mwesigye, 27, a resident of Kacence cell, Nyakishenyi Sub-county who was allegedly caught stealing a goat belonging to one Edith Barangirana on Thursday morning.
Sources indicate that after being held by the suspects, Mwesigye was lynched and his body set on fire before the incident was reported to Nyakishenyi Police Station by the complainant.
The Kigezi region Police spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed that officers visited the crime scene, where it was documented and processed, and statements were recorded from witnesses.
“We are hunting for a group of suspects who killed a man, Allan Mwesigye, and set his body ablaze after they alleged he stole a goat. The matter was reported to our officers at Nyakishenyi Police Station, who visited, documented, and processed the crime scene,” said Elly Maate.
Maate added that the body was conveyed to Rwakabengo HC III for a postmortem and that efforts to apprehend all the suspects are underway to ensure they are charged accordingly and that the investigations are ongoing.
