The President’s message was delivered on his behalf by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, during the inauguration ceremony of the first Kisoro District Khadi, Sheikh Ali Mwesigye.

Reading the President’s letter at an event held on Saturday at Kisoro Hill Primary School, Speaker Tayebwa underscored the government’s long-standing commitment to national development.

“Since 1986, our government has spearheaded a transformative agenda, turning dusty paths into paved highways, elevating classrooms into centers of excellence, and ensuring quality healthcare is a reality for all Ugandans,” Tayebwa stated.

Hajji Badru Ssebyala, the Kisoro District Resident District Commissioner (RDC), revealed that dialogues between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are ongoing to enhance cross-border trade and business operations.

He also urged the people of Kisoro to continue supporting President Museveni in the upcoming polls, emphasizing the peace and security enjoyed under his leadership.

The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Mubajje, head of the Uganda Supreme Muslim Council, applauded President Museveni for sending his representative and for the government’s continued support of the Islamic faith.

He also commended the people of Kisoro for prioritizing education, which he said enabled them to raise a leader qualified to serve as District Khadi.

“My charge to you, Sheikh Mwesigye, is to persist in the vital mission of uniting our community and strengthening the collaboration that empowers the faithful,” Mufti Shaban stated.

Meanwhile, the Bufumbira South MP, Hon. Alex Niyonsaba Seruganda, encouraged Muslims to work together for the district’s progress.

The Kisoro District Woman MP, Hon. Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, congratulated the new Khadi and praised his commitment to serving the Islamic community and fostering peace.

The newly installed District Khadi, Sheikh Ali Mwesigye, pledged to serve all people without discrimination and to ensure residents actively participate in government programs for poverty eradication.

“My mission is to empower our residents, transforming them from passive observers into active drivers of the government’s initiatives to conquer poverty,” Sheikh Mwesigye stated.

The event highlighted the government’s outreach to religious institutions and the intertwining of faith-based leadership with national development and political agendas, setting a tone of collaboration in the run-up to the 2026 elections.
