RUBANDA, UGANDA – The Deputy Speaker of Rubanda District, Nyetegyereize Mbabazi Pierre, has been arrested and committed to civil prison after being found liable in a protracted land dispute.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Kabale Chief Magistrates Court at Rubanda issued a Warrant of Committal, on October 16 2025 mandating his arrest and imprisonment in connection to Land Civil Suit No.014/2024.
The warrant, signed by the presiding magistrate, orders law enforcement to imprison Nyetegyereize Mbabazi Pierre. The case was originally filed against him by plaintiffs Kamara Caleb and Katungi Kenneth.
The court set a subsistence allowance for his imprisonment, an action underscoring the judiciary’s firm stance on resolving land conflicts, a common source of litigation in the region.
The court had previously found Nyetegyereize Mbabazi Pierre liable in the suit, leading to the recent issuance of the committal warrant for his failure to comply with the court’s earlier judgment.
Efforts to reach the plaintiffs or the defendant’s legal representatives for further comment were unsuccessful by the time of this publication.
This development comes amid a separate legal challenge in which the same Pierre Mbabazi had sought the removal of Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna as Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi.
The High Court Civil Division in Kampala recently dismissed an application in which Mbabazi had filed a petition seeking to nullify the election and enthronement of Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna.
Akanjuna was elected the 6th Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi in February and consecrated in May 2022, succeeding Rt. Rev. George Bagamuhunda.
Mbabazi had sued the Church of Uganda provincial assembly and the board of registered trustees, citing irregularities in the election and enthronement process.
