KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, has praised technology giant Huawei for its significant contributions to Uganda’s digital transformation journey and national economic development.

Nabbanja met with the Huawei Eastern Africa Multi Country Regional CEO, Mr. Eric Dong, and the Country Managing Director of Huawei Uganda, Mr. Edward Zhang, to discuss ongoing and future collaborations aimed at advancing Uganda’s digital economy.
In a statement following the meeting, the Prime Minister commended Huawei for its impactful work in advancing digital transformation within Uganda.
She highlighted the company’s substantial role in boosting the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and building local capacity through extensive training programmes.
“HUAWEI has greatly contributed to Uganda’s GDP and has trained over 20,000 Ugandans under its different digital training programmes over the years,” Nabbanja noted.
A key highlight of the longstanding partnership has been Huawei’s integral role, acknowledged by the Prime Minister, in developing Uganda’s National Data Transmission Backbone Infrastructure (NBI) from its initial stages a project identified as critical for digital sector growth.
Mr. Zhang confirmed that Huawei remains committed to working toward developing Uganda and applying its skills to uplift the country’s GDP.
He further appreciated Uganda for allowing the company to operate in the country and pledged to sustain the strong partnership with the government.
The engagement underscores the Ugandan government’s continued strategy to partner with leading global technology firms to drive its digital agenda, aiming to improve public service delivery, foster innovation, and create a robust digital economy.
