KAMPALA, UGANDA – Three women sustained serious injuries over the weekend after a massive explosion at the sauna of Buziga Country Resort in Upper Buziga Zone, Makindye Division, Kampala District.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The victims include Hajjat Masitula, 69, Vice Chairperson LC I of Katuso Cell, who suffered severe burns on her back, chest, and lower body; Zahara Nakawesi Kasenene, 39, who sustained burns and a broken left leg; and Mamaram Aisha, who sustained multiple severe burns across her body.
Police at Kabalagala have opened an active investigation into a case of suspected rash and neglect following the incident, which occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 24, 2025, at around 8:30 pm.
All three victims were initially rushed to Kiruddu Hospital for emergency treatment before two were transferred for more specialized care.
One was referred to Nsambya Hospital and another to Mulago Hospital, where they continue to receive medical attention.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, saying that a team of officers, including detectives and a Scene of Crime Officer, responded immediately to the scene, which they documented and secured.
The explosion caused extensive damage, with a partial structural collapse, cracked walls, and debris containing broken glass and blood stains, though the exact cause of the significant blast remains undetermined.
Owoyesigyire added that police have taken statements from witnesses and victims, but no arrests have been made as the scene remains cordoned off for a forensic examination to determine the cause.
Police confirm the investigation is ongoing with updates to follow, and are working with medical staff to monitor the victims and support their families.
