Defeated Legislator Advocates for Proper Political Handovers

Ntungamo, Uganda – Ntungamo District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Joselyn Bata Kamateneti, has urged fellow legislators to prioritize smooth transitions by preparing detailed handover reports for their successors to ensure continuity in service delivery.

Speaking on the importance of accountability, Kamateneti emphasized that conceding defeat and facilitating a proper transition is crucial for maintaining development momentum in constituencies.

Kamateneti stressed that transparency and long-term planning should take precedence over short-term gains, noting that many leaders’ refusal to accept election results has hindered both democracy and effective governance.

“Losing an election does not mean the end of service; leaders can still contribute in other capacities and I pledging her support to Viola Namanya Buruko, the newly elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer for the Ntungamo District Woman MP seat,” Bata said.

Kamateneti affirmed her commitment to completing ongoing projects before her term ends and expressed gratitude to Ntungamo residents for their trust during her tenure.

The 25-year-old lawyer Viola Namanya Buruko emerged victorious in a highly competitive race, securing 59,375 votes (37.54%) against Kamateneti’s 47,235 votes (29.87%).

Other contenders included Gloria Kamayangi with 36,844 votes (23.30%), journalist Silvia Turyabitunga with 8,796 votes (5.56%), Shamir Mugarura with 2,977 votes (1.88%), Patience Bikashaga Amanya with 1,700 votes (1.07%), and Agathar Nyamate Muhingira with 1,359 votes (0.86%).
