The community-driven initiative seeks to transform transportation networks and enhance access to vital farmland and markets a critical step toward boosting livelihoods, especially for local stone sellers and smallholder farmers who rely on the route.

In an exclusive interview with westernpearlreports.com, frustrated locals laid bare the daily hardships they endure due to the dilapidated road a crumbling artery that strangles economic activity and jeopardizes community welfare.

Farmers struggle to transport harvested crops, including beans, maize, sorghum, and Irish potatoes, to markets, leading to post-harvest losses and reduced incomes.

Additionally, pregnant women face significant challenges accessing health centres for delivery, raising concerns about maternal health in the area.

Village Chairperson John Hamika hailed the residents’ unprecedented cooperation, noting that such community-driven initiatives accelerate development faster than waiting for government intervention.

“This road is our lifeline it connects our farmers to markets, our mothers to clinics, and our children to schools. When I see elders and youth alike sweating side by side to rebuild what neglect has broken, it rekindles my faith in the power of our community. This isn’t just about gravel and dirt; it’s about writing our own destiny with bare hands,” said Hamika.

Ramadan Ndikuyeze, a hopeful candidate for mayor of Kisoro Municipality, urged authorities to officially name the road and include it in the municipality’s recognized road network.

He emphasized that formal recognition would open doors for potential upgrades under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project, a government initiative aimed at improving urban infrastructure.

“If this road is documented and recognized, it stands a chance to be upgraded under USMID or other government programs. I urge local leaders and residents to act quickly so they don’t miss out on this opportunity,” Ndikuyeze stated.

As residents continue their grassroots efforts amid delays in official action, their progress demonstrates the transformative power of community-led development.
