Rukiga, Uganda – A female police officer and her male counterpart from Rukiga District are presently slated to face the District Police Disciplinary Committee on Thursday, June 4, 2025, in connection with allegations of Discreditable conduct, a charge that potentially entails severe repercussions for their professional standing.

The two law enforcement officers were apprehended and taken into custody on Wednesday, subsequent to the widespread dissemination of a video clip on social media platforms, which purportedly depicted Ms. Akech Gorrete No. 73027 PC and her colleague, Omara Sam No. 77063 PC, both affiliated with Muhanga Police Station, engaging in behavior ostensibly constituting misconduct.

It is purported that Gorrete had previously been embroiled in a romantic relationship with the client, whose identity remains undisclosed, which culminated in a contentious dispute, thereby prompting the client to visit Gorrete’s workplace with the alleged intention of tarnishing her professional reputation.

The client is alleged to have surreptitiously recorded a video on his mobile device, which he subsequently disseminated on social media platforms, averring that Officer Gorrete had solicited pecuniary remuneration from him prior to documenting his statement, an incident that potentially jeopardizes her career trajectory.

The second male officer, Omara, who also featured prominently in the video clip, purportedly interjected after a vitriolic altercation between Gorrete and her erstwhile paramour and client.

According to the Rukiga District police administration, the two officers were captured on video soliciting monetary payment from a client for services that are ostensibly gratuitous, and are presently facing disciplinary proceedings before the District Disciplinary Committee.

In a formal press statement, Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate unequivocally denounced the extortion, cautioning other officers against engaging in analogous behavior.

“The police management strongly condemns the act of extortion for services that are supposed to be free and warns all officers against demanding gratification. Those who engage in such behavior risk facing criminal charges.” Elly Maate said.

Maate further emphasized that the police management actively encourages citizens to report any instances of extortion or misconduct by police officers to the Regional Police Headquarters in Kabale, where they can lodge formal complaints and facilitate thorough investigations.
