The just-concluded Dr. Sylvia’s Easter Cup tournament, held on Saturday, April 18th, 2025, at Rushebeya Playground in Rwamucucu Sub-county, was a resounding success, showcasing the district’s hidden talents and promoting sportsmanship.

While speaking at the grand finale of the tournament, Dr. Sylvia emphasized the importance of regular physical exercise for maintaining good health, particularly for men.

She reiterated her commitment to nurturing local talent and promoting sports development in the district.

“I have previously implemented various initiatives, including distributing coffee seeds to improve livelihoods and income, and the ‘Akabox’ campaign, which has contributed significantly to money management for families. Now, we are focusing on improving sports among sports enthusiasts, which will help identify hidden talents among the youth,” said Dr. Sylvia.

The tournament, which commenced in January this year, featured both girls’ and boys’ categories.

Sindi Ward emerged as the champions in the boys’ category, defeating Nyakagabagaba Team 1-0 and taking home a Shs 2 million cash prize.

In the girls’ category, Rukiga North defeated Rukiga South 4-2 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time.

FUFA President Eng. Moses Hassim Magogo, who graced the occasion, encouraged parents and guardians to support their children in sports, highlighting its role in national development.

“I urge you parents to allow your young ones to engage in sports to promote their talents, as this can feed them for the rest of their lives,” said Eng. Magogo.

He also donated three sets of uniforms and 60 footballs to the participating teams.

Dr. Sylvia’s Easter Cup tournament is part of her broader initiatives to uplift household incomes and promote development in the district.

Her recent distribution of coffee seedlings to a large number of people in the district is a testament to her commitment to improving the lives of Rukiga residents.

As Rukiga District looks to the future, Dr. Sylvia Alinaitwe’s leadership and initiatives are poised to play a significant role in shaping the district’s development trajectory.
