The suspects, identified as Masereka Simon, 16, and Bwambale Ezra, 15, are residents of Kanyatsi East Cell, Mailo Kumi Ward, Kinyamaseke Town Council.

The boys, currently detained at Kinyamaseke Police Station under Bwera Division, allegedly stole pigs belonging to Agaba Charles, a resident of Musomoro North Cell, Kinyamaseke Town Council, Kasese District.

According to SP Nelson Tumushime, Rwenzori East Region-Kasese Police Spokesperson, the theft was reported to the Local Council by Agaba, prompting police to deploy a highly trained dog to aid in the investigation.

“The pig is the property of Agaba Charles, a resident of Musomoro North Cell, Kinyamaseke Town Council, Kasese District. After Agaba Charles reported the theft to the Local Council, the Kinyamaseke Police were alerted and deployed a highly trained police dog to aid in the investigation, leading to the arrest of two male juveniles,” said SP Nelson Tumushime.

The police spokesperson urged communities to be vigilant as the Easter festive season approaches, keeping cattle and other livestock safe and reporting suspicious activities to curb the rising theft of livestock in the region.

This incident comes amid a surge in livestock theft, with a notable case on March 7, 2025, where police in Kasese Municipality arrested Muhindo Moses for allegedly stealing over 20 goats in Umoja Cell, Nyamwamba West Division.
