Ntungamo, Uganda – Local leaders and residents of Ngoma sub-county in Ntungamo district have issued a stern warning, vowing not to participate in the upcoming 2026 party primaries and general elections unless their long-standing demands are met.

At the heart of their grievances are unfulfilled promises, particularly regarding electricity. In 2021, the government extended electricity to the area but switched it off after the elections.
The residents cited lack of electricity, despite erected poles and wires, as locals struggle to repay loans for machines that rely on electricity. Poor roads and inadequate health facilities are also major concerns.
The neglected Akabare Bridge in Mutungu Cell, connecting Rushenyi and Ruhaama counties, has resulted in significant milk production losses due to inaccessible roads.
Other pressing issues include the loss of at least 20 children at Akabare bridge during the rainy season, and the risk of contracting water-borne diseases due to shared water sources with animals.
The residents have promised to prevent politicians from posting campaign materials unless their grievances are addressed. Their concerns carry significant weight, given Kashenyi’s history of voting 100% for NRM in Ntungamo district.
