AIGP Niwabiine Lawrence, Director of Traffic & Road Safety, disclosed this alarming trend during a media briefing at Naguru Police Headquarters in Kampala.

The report underscores that pedestrians, passengers, and riders of boda bodas (motorcycle taxis) are disproportionately affected by road traffic deaths in Uganda.

Pedestrian fatalities are particularly significant, with 40 deaths reported in recent accidents, according to the Uganda Police Force.

To address this issue, AIGP Niwabiine emphasized the need for urgent action, noting that the Directorate of Traffic & Road Safety has been working to enforce traffic and road safety laws.

The directorate’s efforts focus on promoting a culture of road safety and reducing crashes on Ugandan roads.
