The deceased has been identified as Mirembe Hindu, 27, a resident of Kashaka Nuabugando village, Bubare sub-county, Mbarara district, who allegedly drowned and died instantly.

Sources revealed that Mirembe and her boyfriend, Robert Hausvih, had left Kampala on December 9th, last year for one of the islands at Lake Bunyonyi, Bufuka village, Mwendo parish, Kitumba sub-county, to spend their festival season holidays, seeking a change of environment.

On Saturday night, around 10:00 p.m., while the couple and others were watching the Liverpool game, Mirembe decided to jump into the waters of Lake Bunyonyi for a swim.

After a few minutes, she emerged but dove into the waters again and failed to resurface.Hausvih and his friends jumped into the water, found her, and pulled her out.

They attempted to administer first aid, but she did not respond and rushed her to Rugarama hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Kigezi Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed to this reporter that the report of drowning was registered at Kabale Central Police station on Sunday around 5:00 p.m. Officers responded to the scene, examined it, and documented their findings.
