MAKINDYE: Security operatives at the General Court Martial Makindye have arrested one of veteran opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye’s lawyers, Eron Kiiza over alleged professional misconduct.

Counsel Eron Kiiza’s arrest follows the Chaos that erupted at the General Court Martial on Tuesday after a heated disagreement with the officer that blocked him from accessing the bar, prompting him to bang on the barricade and insist on entering.
A few hours after he was arrested and whisked away from the Court roam Eron Kiiza, was returned handcuffed to the dock and sentenced without reading charges to him nor allowing him a minute for mitigation.
Ruling on Eron’s case Chairman of the General Court Martial (GCM), Brig Gen Robert Freeman Mugabe stated that Kiiza had confronted and assaulted the court orderly, and despite being warned, he did not heed the advice.
Besigye’s supporters condemned the arrest, calling it intimidation and accusing the court martial of operating as a kangaroo court demanding Kiiza’s release.
Meanwhile the General Court Martial in Makindye which went chaotic also barred the lead lawyer Martha Karua from representing Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hajji Obeid Lutale despite her securing temporary practicing certificate from the Uganda Law Council.
During the Court proceeding Besigye and his co-accused Hajji Obeid were added and read other new charges including “Treachery” with the prostitution’s team seeking court permission to amend the charge sheet to include new charges and add new suspects.
Brig Gen Freeman Mugabe, further adjourned the case to January 13, 2025, for further mention.
