The Third Phase of the Digital Registration Number Plates has kick-started.

KAMPALA – UGANDA: The Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS) Project has started the third phase of Issuing digital registration plates for private and public motor vehicles at the selected bonds throughout the country.

The ITMS Project was launched in November 2023 with the Digital number plates rolled out starting on government vehicles and in November last year, it was further rolled out for motorcycles and tricycles.

The 3rd phase of the ITMS project comes 3.5 years since the government, through the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of Works and Transport, signed an agreement with M/S Joint Stock Company Global Security, to set up an Intelligent Transport Monitoring System (ITMS).

Several bonds within Kampala City and its surroundings have been selected and zoned as Registration Plates Fitment Centers and will have full-time staff positioned to facilitate registration in the assigned zone.

The selected bonds in Kampala include; Kampala Modernity, Cadam Enterprises, Banda Bond, Jambo Auto Mart, Yuasa investments, Jan Kampala, CFAO Motors, Future Investments and COSMOS.

The Ministry of Works and Transport, has further set up offices in district and cities through which the project will be curried out including; Arua, Gulu, Jinja, Mbale, Masaka, Mbarara, Kabale and Fort portal.

For Vehicles entering the country for first-time registration, Venue the processes, will be at Malaba, and Mutukula Border Entry Point with the Digital Registration Plate Costing UGX 714,300/=.

HOW TO APPLY FOR FIRST TIME REGISTRATION:

1). Category one is those that clear taxes at the points of entry of Mombasa or Dar salaam (DIRECT IM4). This category has the privilege of entering the country with a vehicle fitted with a digital registration plate along with a log book in hand. All one needs to do is to log onto the booking system right away after your taxes are cleared.

2) This category is of those who bring in the vehicles to bonded warehouses and thereafter clear taxes. (FROM IM7 REGIME). After clearing taxes and all assessments are done on the URA Portal, including those done by Motor Vehicle Registration, the client will go on ITMS and make a booking.

After confirmation, the client will choose which location and time for fitment of the registration plate. And the service will be brought to you.

For further information on booking for a registration plate, contact Joint Stock Company Global Security, the company/ Virtuous Global Security Company contracted by the government to produce and fix the registered plates.
