Police lists out permitted new year 2025 firework blasters.

KAMPALA – UGANDA: Uganda Police has issued permission to 8 licensed fireworks blasters to show fireworks at the new year 2025 entry events in the 2900 approved applications countrywide.

This was revealed by the Police spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke on Monday while addressing the Media on the country’s general security situation as it prepares for the new year eve.

The 8 licensed fireworks blasters this year include; Tomil Fireworks Ltd, Quality Lighting (U) Ltd, Fireworks 7000 Ltd, Light Africa Ltd, Goshen Africa Ltd, Extremes Events Services Ltd, Sky, Frames (U) Ltd and FESCO Ltd.

“UPF received requests for permission to blast fireworks from hotels, entertainment centers, and areas of worship among others to celebrate the entry into the new year and approved 2900 applications countrywide.” Said Rusoke.

Music shows Police guidelines;

ACP Rusoke highlighted some of the guidelines to be followed including advertising the fireworks display in both electronic and print media, especially local FM radio stations and newspapers before the display.

He noted that the fireworks show shall last only five minutes from the time of the first blast while Counter Terrorism (CT) police personnel will escort the fireworks materials and supervise the show together with the DPCs to guarantee security.

“The permitted applicants must advertise their events in the newspapers on pages 1, 2, 3, and or 4 only and must be conspicuous and large enough. Fireworks materials to be displayed must not be more than 1.5mm Caliber, and the blasts shall last only FIVE (05) minutes from the time of the first blast. Officials from Counter Terrorism Police and area DPCs must carry out prior inspection of the venue to ascertain suitability for fireworks display and we advise the public to refrain from burning tires as we welcome the new year.” Kituuma Noted.

Kituuma added that any fireworks materials not displayed must be handled by a person with explosives blaster license and caution individuals with firearms against firing shots into the air as they celebrate the New Year.

“The area DPCs reserve the power to stop the display if not satisfied with adherence to the guidelines, and failure to comply will lead to immediate termination, before or during the display including any other actions that are deemed necessary.” Kituuma added.

Prayer Sessions Police Guidelines;

The Police spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke said that the organizers of prayer sessions MUST co-plan with the district security committees to guarantee that congregations are secure and safe.

Kituuma added Uganda is among the countries at the front of fighting global terrorism and has faced threats from Terrorist organizations thus urging the population to team up with security forces in ensuring safe neighborhoods.
