In his 2024 Christmas Message conveyed today through the Press, Bishop Akanjuna highlighted the increasing poverty rates in Kigezi Sub-region, but also encouraged Christians to confront the challenge by embracing Government’s poverty alleviation programs.

“I ask you brethren, do not be left out when the Government is distributing funds to help us get out of poverty, especially the Parish Development Model,” he said.

The Bishop advised married couples to work together if they are to achieve economic prosperity in their homes.

“I have seen couples work together and get out of poverty because they worked as a family. Husband and wife, remember to face challenges together with your children, and you will succeed,” he said.

Rt. Rev. Akanjuna used the same opportunity to condemn the rampant domestic violence that has been reported from different parts of the country. He particularly expressed concern about the recent murder cases that involved members of the same family. He asked all people to let Christmas be their opportunity to repent and accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior.

“Let the birth of Christ help to change the minds of those who have resorted to domestic violence, killing their parents, wives, husbands. We all need to return to Christ who is the chief mediator between God and man” He said.

CUE IN… BBISHOP AKANJUNA ON MURDERS

Bishop Gaddie Akanjuna’s condemnation of domestic violence comes only four days after a 19-year-old Nicholas Niwagaba,  allegedly murdered his father, Darius Turamyomwe, 52, from Omumihanga Village, Kitumba Sub-county in Kabale District. According to Police, the incident occurred on December 18, 2024, at around 8:00 PM, when the deceased was attacked by his son following a disagreement over land.

In October this year, two young men from Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro District, were arrested after they reportedly killed their 59-year-old biological father in a dispute over a bride price payment. The suspects murdered their father, Silver Mushabe after he sold a piece of land for an unspecified sum of money and refused to hand over the money to them so that one of them could pay bride price and reconcile with his divorced wife.
