BULAMBULI LANDSLIDES: Death Toll Rises to 28

The Bulambuli Mudslides victims have risen to 28 after more five bodies were retrieved from Buluganya Parish, Buluganya Sub-county.

The newly identified victims include; Masuba Emmanuel 45, Magomu Paul 3 Bududu Daniel 3, Kissa Aaron 1.5 years, Wabuyanga Jackline 5, and Nabukonde Beth, 52 all residents of Masugu village.

The latest death toll  figures were announced by the Police Spokesperson ACP Rusoke Kituuma who also noted that search and rescue opeartions were still going on.

Heavy rains triggered landslides in the mountainous district of Bulambuli last week, claiming lives and leaving scores injured. By Thursday last week, a report compiled by the Uganda Red Cross Society indicated that up to 113 people were missing.

The heavy rains also destroyed up to 40 houses and washed away acres of crop gardens leaving thousands of people homeless and facing imminent famine.

The lead search and rescue teams include Uganda Peoples Defense Forces -UPDF, Officials from the Office of the Prime Minister, and the Uganda Red Cross Society.
