The District has a total of 322 Polling Stations and almost all of them had opened as early as 8:00 am, with all the election materials, polling officials, observers and the agents of contesting candidates. However, all these officials were almost idle by 9:30 am, as only a handful of voters appeared to cast their votes.

At Gikoro Primary School Polling Station in Nyakabande Sub county, only 21  out of 582 voters had cast their votes by 10:01 am. According to the Presiding officer, Mogard Turikumukiza , the first person cast his vote at exactly 8:40 am.

At Saza A playground Polling station in Central Division Kisoro Municipality, out of 453 registered voters, only 21 had cast their votes by 9:22 am. According to the Presiding officer,  Brandina Tumukunde, the first vote was cast at exactly 7:42 am.

At Saza B playground Polling station in Central Division Kisoro Municipality, out of 548 registered voters, only 41 had cast their votes by 9:34 am. According to the Presiding officer,  , the first vote was cast at exactly 8:06 am. Kisoro Main Village  with registered 556 voters, had recorded only 142 cast  votes  by 12:19 pm while the first voter appeared at exactly 7;30 am.

Speaking to our reporters at Gikoro Ps. Polling station where she cast her vote, at exactly 11:20 am, Ms. Rose Kabagyenyi the NRM Flag bearer in the By-election, Rose Kabagyenyi observed that Kisoro people are farmers and most of them might have started the morning in their gardens.

She called upon all registered voters to cast their votes as early as possible to avoid last hour  inconveniences. At the polling station, Ms. Kabagyenyi was accompanied by a team led by Ms. Lydia Wanyoto Chairperson of  the NRM Women’s league. Ms Wanyoto observed that the election had been successful “so far,” requesting people of Kisoro District to remain calm and peaceful to the end of the election process.

Meanwhile, the NUP Candidate Ms. Sultana Salim cast her vote at 12:28 pm, from Kisoro Main Village Polling Station in Kisoro Municipality.

A total of six candidates are contesting today’s Kisoro Woman MP by-election to replace the late Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi who died in September this year. They include NRM’s Rose Kabagyeni, Independent candidate Grace Ngabirano Akifeeza, Salim Sultana (NUP), Aisha Cyimpaye (PPP), Juliet Musanase (FDC), and Mable Ingabire (UPC).
