NTUNGAMO, UGANDA – The Ntungamo District Education Officer, Dennis Ntare, has commended schools for introducing peer-led judicial programs aimed at fostering discipline and conflict resolution within the school community.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Addressing parents on Friday during the PTA’s annual general meeting at Standard College Ntungamo, Ntare appealed to parents to cooperate with teachers to inculcate discipline in children rather than shielding them.
He hailed the founders and management of Standard College Ntungamo for being the first school in the district to initiate the student court system to promote leadership, personal responsibility, a sense of community, and to empower students while addressing behavioural issues constructively.
The head teacher of Standard College Ntungamo, Boaz Luyimbazi, noted that student courts also known as youth courts are a student-led system where students judge fellow students for minor offenses, offering them consequences as a way of administering discipline in schools before forwarding a case to the administration.
Luyimbazi told parents that student courts will teach students about justice and legal issues, and will empower them with the confidence to solve their problems amicably with or without a teacher to avert indiscipline cases that can result in school strikes.
The parents’ representative, Naturinda Saviour Nalongo, thanked the head teacher and staff for such an initiative and asked parents to be keen on their children’s discipline during holidays.
