KABALE, UGANDA – Police in Kabale district have launched a full-scale investigation into the tragic death of a prominent businessman, whose body was discovered in a eucalyptus plantation.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The deceased has been identified as Geoffrey Rutambira, a resident of Kakooko village, Bukoora parish, Kitumba sub-county, Kabale district whose body was discovered at around 9:50 p.m. on Saturday.
The grim discovery was made by a local resident, Muhwezi Nelson, who was returning from Kakooko village when he noticed a mysterious light emanating from the forest along the roadside.
Following a moment of uncertainty, he ventured into the area and discovered the body, which he identified as that of Mzee Rutambira.
He promptly alerted another local resident, Turyahewa Sharon, who subsequently visited the scene to verify the incident before reporting it to the Kabale Central Police Station.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police spokesperson, said a multi-unit police team that included a K-9 unit was swiftly dispatched to cordon off, examine, and document the scene.
Maate added that a K-9 unit police dog was deployed to track the assailants but was unsuccessful, as the crime scene had been compromised by residents before police arrived.
“The K-9 police dog was introduced at the scene to aid in tracking down the suspects, but it wasn’t successful given that the locals had tampered with the crime scene,” Maate explained.
The body was retrieved and transported to the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination and was later released to the family for burial.
The police spokesperson assured the public of their commitment to justice, confirming that ongoing efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute the perpetrators are actively underway.
The police have appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
